Academic
Excellence Indicator System report. With almost one computer for every
two students, Roosevelt High School places a strong emphasis on technology-assisted
education. In addition to the usual computer lab classes, students can do course
work in Web authoring, digital graphics, animations and other specialized areas.
Students also have access to college level courses through the ITV network,
and they can participate in tech-prep courses offered by South Plains College
and other institutions.
Roosevelt High School, built in 1937, is a place of
change, with many improvements to the campus being made in recent years. These
changes are shown to the public during the school's annual Open House celebration.
Extracurricular activities include sports, band, business and agriculture
clubs and One Act Play competitions. The Eagles compete in tennis, basketball,
baseball, track, softball, golf and power-lifting.
A bonus feature for students
is the school's early release program. Students meeting high academic, attendance
and discipline standards are allowed to leave early on Fridays. Students needing
assistance are provided with tutoring and mentoring programs on Friday afternoons.
Senior students will travel to San Antonio this year. Many Roosevelt High
School graduates attend technical schools and colleges.
